Milbank LLP was recognized by Asia Business Law Journal in the publication’s Japan Law Firm Awards 2023. The awards celebrate the most essential practices in the country by identifying the top four law firms in each category.
Milbank was selected in the Energy & Natural Resources category for providing exceptional legal services to Japan’s institutions and multinational corporations. The publication states that Milbank’s Tokyo office is “renowned for handling complex mining, renewable energy and liquefied natural gas projects.”
The publication also spotlighted Tokyo-based Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance partner Aled Davies, who regularly represents sponsors, lenders and export credit agencies on the development and financing of, and acquisition of interests in, large-scale infrastructure and energy projects throughout the world. One such example, is the financing of US$3.8 billion development of a high voltage direct current subsea transmission system in the United Arab Emirates. The mega-project is highly significant as it is the MENA region’s first high voltage direct current subsea transmission system. It is also Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s first greenfield project financing. This deal won multiple deal of the year awards. Milbank also represented the Export-Import Bank of China in a US$300 million loan facility to Africa Finance Corporation and a US$600 million loan facility to African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank). Both deals are expected to foster economic growth and development across Africa.
