Lucas Stumpf studied law at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich and the University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland). Following the legal traineeship, he completed an LL.M. at the University of Chicago. As part of his training, he gained practical experience at international law firms as well as federal agencies in Munich, Hamburg and Berlin.
