Milbank LLP Singapore-based partner James Murray participated in a panel discussion at PFI’s 29th Financing Energy Projects in Asia Conference on October 17 in Singapore.
Mr. Murray discussed corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs), which are long-term contracts under which businesses agree to purchase electricity directly from an energy generator. He particularly focused on the issues applicable to cross-jurisdictional power projects following the successful closing of the award-winning Monsoon Wind project in Lao/Vietnam (on which Milbank acts as lead adviser to the lenders) and in light of other similar projects being developed in the region (a number of which are back-stopped by corporate PPAs). He was joined by moderator Xueyong Chin, DBS Bank; Cyril Dissescou, Nexif Ratch; Mary Anne Low, S&P Global Ratings; Pham Ba Linh, Lexcomm Vietnam LLC; and Fergus Smith, White & Case.
Mr. Murray represents parties in the development and financing of power, renewables, oil and gas, mining and other energy and infrastructure projects. He also has extensive experience in structured and acquisition financings, restructurings and M&A. He is featured in the 2024 Chambers Asia-Pacific guide and the 2025 edition of The Best Lawyers in Singapore.
