Milbank LLP has been named the 2024 International Law Firm of the Year by TrustLaw for its outstanding pro bono work. TrustLaw is a Thomson Reuters Foundation initiative that connects pro bono teams to organizations in need of legal assistance. The TrustLaw Awards celebrate the remarkable pro bono projects undertaken by legal teams with NGOs and social enterprises around the world.

Milbank is recognized for providing innovative solutions to some of the world’s most important social and environmental challenges and, per the award criteria, “for demonstrating exceptional effort and enthusiasm in supporting pro bono clients on projects undertaken through TrustLaw.”

“TrustLaw is one of our most trusted pro bono partners for interesting and challenging cases for our non-litigators,” said John Dewar, a partner in Milbank’s Global Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance Group in London. “In 2023 alone, Milbank lawyers devoted over 2,500 hours to help organizations around the world that are focused on issues like stopping child marriages, workers’ rights, environmental concerns, reproductive rights, gender equality and sports programs for at-risk youth.” Mr. Dewar is a lead lawyer advising the Margaret Pyke Trust on an innovative initiative that combines environmental restoration with community health and educational programs in Uganda's Rushebeya-Kanyabaha Wetland.

Pro bono participation in Milbank’s London office has expanded significantly in recent years, with the segment of the firm’s UK lawyers who annually contribute 25 or more pro bono hours soaring from 20 percent to 46 percent.
