Primary Focus & Experience
Mr. Villaverde’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation. He has represented financial institutions, corporate board members, executives and others in federal and state court cases across the United States involving claims under the federal and state antitrust and securities laws, the Commodity Exchange Act, civil RICO, and contract, tort and insurance laws. Mr. Villaverde has also represented financial institutions in governmental and regulatory investigations.
Representative Matters Include:
- Representation of financial institution in connection with putative class action litigation concerning alleged collusive manipulation of the market for European Government Bonds.
- Representation of financial institution in connection with governmental investigations and putative class action and individual litigation concerning alleged collusive manipulation of the London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR), Euro Interbank Offered Rate (EURIBOR), and/or Tokyo Interbank Offered Rate (TIBOR).
- Representation of financial institution in connection with putative class action litigation concerning alleged collusive manipulation of the Singapore Interbank Offered Rate (SIBOR) and Singapore Swap Offer Rate (SOR).
- Representation of financial institution in connection with putative class action and individual litigation arising out of alleged collusive manipulation of the market for US Treasury securities.
- Representation of financial institution in international bondholder dispute.
- Representation of telecommunications company in putative class action securities litigation.
- Representation of former mortgage company CEO/board member in putative class action securities litigation.
- Representation of former investment bank CFO/board member in putative class action securities litigation.
- Representation of underwriter institutions in putative class action securities litigation.
- Representation of private equity fund in asset purchase agreement dispute.
- Representation of private equity fund in finder’s fee contract dispute.
- Representation of investment bank in regulatory investigation of certain banking practices.
- Representation of acquirer and target companies in shareholder suits attempting to enjoin corporate transactions.
- Representation of insurers in disputes with policyholders concerning product defect, asbestos, environmental and property damage claims.
Recognition & Accomplishments
Mr. Villaverde earned his B.A. from Amherst College and his J.D. from Cornell Law School, where he was a Managing Editor of the Cornell Law Review and served on the executive board of the Latino American Law Student Association.
Mr. Villaverde has published various articles, including: Villaverde, Structuring the Prosecutor's Duty to Search the Intelligence Community for Brady Material, 88 Cornell L. Rev. 1471 (2003).
