Primary Focus & Experience
Derrik has extensive experience in advising project sponsors and lenders in a range of conventional and renewable energy and infrastructure project financings, particularly in the US and Latin America.
His recent representations include:
- Apollo Global Management in connection with the €1.5 billion investment by Apollo-managed affiliated entities, funds and clients into an Air France-KLM operating affiliate holding the trademark and most of the commercial partners contracts related to Air France and KLM’s joint loyalty program (Flying Blue);
- Natixis Corporate & Investment Banking (Natixis CIB), BNP Paribas and various institutional investors on a $379 million financing for a portfolio of solar photovoltaic utility-scale and PMGD plants in Chile, owned and operated by Solek Holding SE (Solek);
- Canadian Solar as sponsor in connection with a $100 million financing for a portfolio of solar energy projects in Brazil; and
- Repsol Chile and Ibereólica Renovables Chile as sponsors in connection with a $117 million financing from a group of national and international lenders for the design, construction and operation of Parque Eólica Atacama, a 165.3 MW wind farm in northern Chile.
Recognition & Accomplishments
Mr. Sweeney earned his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and he received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Georgetown University.
He is also fluent in Spanish and Arabic.
