In the latest recognition of its outstanding work in Latin America, Milbank LLP received three “Deal of the Year” awards at Latin Lawyer’s 13th Annual Charity Awards Ceremony in São Paulo on April 10, 2019.
The awards ceremony, held at the Palácio Tangará in São Paulo, recognized legal practitioners who have worked on winning deals and cases across ten categories throughout Latin America. Fabiana Sakai of the Global Capital Markets Group represented Milbank.
Milbank transactions were honored in the following categories:
- Project Finance: Energy and Natural Resources Deal of the Year – Financing of Cerro Dominador Solar Project: A Milbank team advised EIG Global Energy Partners and its subsidiary Cerro Dominador in connection with the financing of a 110 MW concentrated solar thermal power plant and 100 MW photovoltaic solar power plant in Chile.
- Private Mergers and Acquisitions Deal of the Year – Actis’ Acquisition of InterGen’s Mexican Portfolio: A Milbank team advised Actis in its largest acquisition to date and the related acquisition financing of InterGen's Mexican portfolio of businesses, including 2,300+ megawatts, valued at US$1.245 billion.
- Restructuring Deal of the Year – Oi Completes Latin America’s Largest Restructuring: A Milbank team represented a committee of export credit agencies, facility agents and investment banks holding approximately US$1 billion of unsecured debt in the restructuring of the Brazilian telecommunications company, Oi S.A. The debt restructuring is the largest insolvency in Brazilian history and largest debt restructuring in Latin America with over $20 billion of debt restructured as part of the transaction.
