Milbank LLP Global Project, Energy & Infrastructure Finance partner Munib Hussain and associate Noor Maraghi authored the article “Islamic Finance Integration with Project Finance” for Islamic Finance News (IFN). IFN provides breaking news, reports and analyses covering the Shariah compliant finance industry.
Mr. Hussain and Ms. Maraghi discussed the growth path of the Islamic finance industry and the increase in multi-sourced transactions that integrate Islamic finance facilities. They explained how clean energy projects in the Middle East have benefited from Islamic finance investment, which works synergistically with ESG values such as sustainability and long-term stability.
The authors also commented on global Islamic finance trends, including the growing strength of the Islamic finance industry in the UK and the increase in Africa-based issuances from Nigeria, South Africa and Gambia. “The lessons learned with respect to integrating Islamic financing into conventional project finance structures will no doubt allow the capital raised to be invested through a wide array of global opportunities in the project space,” they noted.
