Milbank LLP partner Josh Sterling will speak on the “Clearing the Way to the Future: How Is Technology Changing Market Paradigms?” panel at the Futures Industry Association’s (FIA) annual Law & Compliance Division (L&C) Conference on April 25, 2025, in National Harbor, Maryland. Panelists will discuss the future of trading and clearing derivatives and securities, how new technologies like tokenized assets may fundamentally reshape how markets are accessed and used, what’s coming for vertical integration and direct access models, and how these evolving areas fit into current CFTC and SEC frameworks.
L&C 2025, taking place April 23-25, examines the legal, regulatory and enforcement developments impacting businesses and offers practical compliance tips and strategies for the industry. The program features sessions on the US presidential transition and what it means for the CFTC, SEC and financial services regulation; industry efforts to implement the SEC’s Treasury clearing mandate; CFTC, SEC and DOJ enforcement trends; technology’s impact on new clearing and market structures; crypto policy and regulation; and compliance best practices.
Mr. Sterling is a leading practitioner in commodities and derivatives law and a former Director of the CFTC’s Market Participants Division. He specializes in representing banks, trading firms, derivatives markets and other institutional clients in high-stakes investigations, enforcement matters and other regulatory proceedings before the CFTC.
