Milbank LLP Global Project, Energy & Infrastructure partner John Dewar recently co-authored the United Kingdom chapter for the International Comparative Legal Guide – Mining Law 2025 (12th Edition), published by Global Legal Group.
The chapter covers common issues in mining laws and regulations – administration responsibilities, recent political developments, the mechanics of Acquisition of Rights, foreign ownership requirements and restrictions, environmental aspects, native title and land rights.
John Dewar notes that “...the UK government predicts that in order to support the increase in clean energy technologies alone, the world is expected to need four times as many critical minerals in 2040 as it does now,” and “...the rush for critical minerals in the UK poses the best opportunities for inward foreign investment into the UK.”
