Scott A. Edelman, Chairman of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP, has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL), one of the premier legal associations in North America. The induction ceremony took place before an audience of approximately 600 people during the recent 2017 Spring Meeting of the College in Boca Raton, Florida.
Founded in 1950, the College is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Fellowship is extended by invitation only and only after careful investigation, to those experienced trial lawyers of diverse backgrounds, who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality. Lawyers must have a minimum of fifteen years trial experience before they can be considered for Fellowship. There are currently approximately 5,800 members of the American College of Trial Lawyers in the United States and Canada.
Mr. Edelman is recognized as one of the country’s top litigators and corporate advisers and has successfully led trial teams in a string of high-profile victories. His legal practice, which has spanned 29 years, is focused on high stakes bet-the-company litigation and trials in the areas of securities, commercial and white collar. Over the course of his career, Mr. Edelman has taken more than 18 cases to trial and argued dozens of appeals. His practice includes negotiation and counseling services and he conducts criminal, regulatory, and congressional investigations as well as confidential and public SEC investigations on behalf of various corporations and individuals. He also regularly represents special committees of boards and individual directors on corporate governance, fiduciary duties and conflict of interest matters. Mr. Edelman received his law degree from Harvard Law School and his M.A. and B.A. from Yale University.
