Milbank LLP associates Cathy Zhu and George Zhang received Sanctuary for Families’ 2021 Above & Beyond Pro Bono Achievement Awards in recognition of their efforts on behalf of a victim of gender-based violence. The awards were presented at a virtual event held during Domestic Violence Awareness Month on October 26, 2021.
Ms. Zhu and Mr. Zhang helped a client obtain an immigrant visa and a green card for her daughter, who was living in China with her father when he was arrested. Working with Sanctuary for Families, the Milbank lawyers secured an expedited interview date with the US consulate and assisted the client with the consular process, allowing her to bring her daughter to the United States on an immigrant visa.
Sanctuary for Families assists clients who have been impacted by domestic violence, sex trafficking and related forms of gender violence, with a particular focus on helping clients with Violence Against Women Act petitions.
