Milbank LLP Litigation & Arbitration partner Julian Stait chaired a panel discussion at the Legal Business Financial Regulatory and Disputes Summit 2023 in London on November 9, 2023.
Tackling the subject “Collective redress in financial services disputes: an emerging blueprint?”, the panel discussed some of the recent judgments of the Competition Appeal Tribunal, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court in relation to the certification and funding of proposed class actions. The session covered legal trends and the role of the expert economists in certification hearings and some of the issues relating to pass-on in the assessment of damages. The panel also considered some of the key developments in this area that are likely to arise in the next 12 months, including in relation to carriage disputes and the approval of settlements in opt-out class actions.
Julian was joined on the panel by Emma Hogwood (special counsel, Milbank LLP), Derek Holt (Alix Partners) and Daniel Piccinin KC (Brick Court Chambers).
