About Milbank@Harvard
Best-in-class training
We’re proud to offer Milbank@Harvard, a first-of-its kind program we developed in partnership with one of the world’s leading academic institutions. This intensive program is designed to meet the professional development needs of mid-level and senior associates. Milbank@Harvard received the New York Law Journal 2024 Innovation Award in recognition of its groundbreaking approach.
At the end of their third year, over three consecutive years, each associate from every Milbank office worldwide is sent to Cambridge, Massachusetts for this week-long program, taught on campus by Harvard Business School and Law School faculty with the assistance of Milbank partners. By your sixth year as a Milbank associate, you will have completed a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum that is unmatched by any professional development program offered by a major law firm.
The Milbank@Harvard curriculum includes intensive, interactive courses on finance and accounting, leadership and team management, strategy, marketing, negotiations and macroeconomics—all designed to help you hone the skills and expertise that our elite clients value in their legal advisors.
Throughout the program, you’ll continue to meet up with the same group of colleagues from across practices and offices—strengthening relationships that will benefit you professionally and personally for years to come

Getting to know you
Self-awareness is key to developing your skills, confidence and effectiveness as a leader and leading advisor in the legal market. That’s why we’ve worked with Harvard to develop a bespoke Leadership Feedback program.
As a fifth-year associate, you’ll receive feedback from lawyers you manage, legal assistants, administrative staff, and others who work with you. This feedback, which is maintained by Harvard and not shared with anyone at Milbank, forms the basis of ongoing, personalized, one-to-one coaching with an experienced leadership coach who specializes in advising lawyers. You’ll receive tailored, actionable advice and assistance with goal-setting.
An additional feedback session will follow in your sixth year, when you’ll have another opportunity to assess your growth and continue working toward your goals with your personal coach. Throughout the program, you’ll develop your understanding of team dynamics and learn how to inspire and lead others.
Like other elements of Milbank@Harvard, we developed the Leadership Feedback program based on input from participating associates, as we continue to customize and evolve the program to meet their needs.
Associate Perspectives
Investing in associate development
“The firm invests a lot in the program and gives us the space and time to prepare for it. I was impressed by the amount of variety and the high caliber of the professors. It provides a good platform for people from different backgrounds with different skills and preferences to shine.” Hua Chan, Global Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance, Singapore
Thinking like the client
“It’s an intense, high-octane week. We’re doing analytical and strategic work that’s all grounded in real-world case studies. Every step of the way I’ve been challenged. What I find valuable is that we’re learning the language of our clients.” Taha Khan, Alternative Investments, New York
A great atmosphere for learning
“The professors are super energetic and make things easy to understand. You don’t have grades, you’re not taking a test, and you get to go through your own process of thinking about things in a different light. It’s a really interesting experience.” Dani Lee Sauer, Litigation & Arbitration, Washington, DC
